Post-workout Beauty Hack

I am the most forgetful person on the planet, I swear. You probably already knew that but I already forgot that I’ve told you. (Ba-dum-bum-tss.) This leaves me with an all too familiar feeling of missing something. Did I grab my keys? Phone? Socks for after my workout? Did I feed the dog? On any given day something will fall through the cracks and I’m left scrambling. Do you know that feeling?

That being said, I do also try my best to always improve myself in any ways I deem necessary. I love tools like calendars and list making apps. They really are game changers when you have a busy life like we all do!

On any given day something will fall through the cracks and I’m left scrambling.

The other day I was running late and threw my gym bag together in a rush. Mistake. Yes, I could have planned the night before but I didn’t. I never do. Who even has time for that? Sometimes I’m home with little time to wash my face and put some PJ’s on just so that I can get 5 hours of sleep, only to rush off and do it all over again. That is my real life and my days only contain 24 hours, some of which I need to use for sleep. So, I was rushing and shockingly, forgot a few (okay most of) my beauty essentials to look presentable for the day. In all honesty, I had 8 lipsticks and a tube of mascara with me. Now, I may just be the MacGyver of makeup because I did pull it off but it’s certainly not a look I would recreate.

In that moment, I devised a plan so that I may never be in that silly predicament again. I know you can wear lipstick on your cheeks as a blush but that doesn’t mean it’s ideal. So, here’s what I do now… you know all of those travel sized items that your favorite makeup and hair brands sell? Well, I started buying the minis in the same items I have in my regular sizes but, I don’t exactly use them for travel. I created a gym makeup bag with my staples for getting ready. So, now I’ve got hairspray, foundation, mascara and even concealer at the ready, in my bag. I even threw in my favorite day fragrance roller ball so that I will smell great too.

It’s a really nice feeling to know that I have everything I need and I can stop worrying about forgetting something important.  I may still forget my socks but it’s progress. I still have all of my full sizes at home. I’m left with one less thing to do in the mornings and no longer do I need to lug a heavy overstuffed bag of products to the gym.

Why didn’t I think of this sooner?  🙂

A Fragrance for Any Occasion

The other day I was at work in a deep squat position, tidying up some perfume bottles when one of the girls I work with approached me. Jenna looked very serious when she said firmly, “You said something to me the other day that really resonated with me.” To be honest, I was slightly nervous as to what she was going to say next. Jenna is a no nonsense kind of woman with a lot of sass. Hesitantly, I replied with a calm “Oh, really? And what was that?” As it turns out, she had loved one of my personal beauty rules and had decided to apply it to her own life. The advice? Every one should have a fragrance wardrobe.

Your first fragrance in your wardrobe will be something you absolutely love to wear EVERY DAY. This does not mean you will wear it every day but, it should be something you won’t get sick of wearing regularly. I call this fragrance my signature scent and I believe every woman should have one.

Next, you need to have a scent for night. You know those nights when you go out dancing with your best friends or have drinks with that special (or not so special) someone on Saturday night. Think sensual, deep scents that will get you noticed.

Finally, you’ll want to throw a wildcard into the mix to keep things interesting. It can get monotonous wearing the same old thing day in and day out. Once a week or whenever the mood strikes you, throw on your wildcard fragrance. Go for something you love but is outside your comfort zone!

Once you’ve got the basics you can keep on building, just like you would with a wardrobe of clothing. The sky is the limit!

My fragrance wardrobe:

  • Dior, J’adore is my signature scent
  • YSL ,Black Opium is my night scent
  • Marc Jacobs, Decadence is my wildcard

I told you mine, now you tell me yours. Which fragrances will you have in your wardrobe?

Look like you’ve slept all night! (Even when you didn’t)

In addition to makeup artistry, I work for a cosmetics company and it’s no secret among my friends and family that my schedule is busy and every day is different. Today I was up at 3:00 A.M.  This leaves me feeling and looking tired on occasion. I’m sure a lot of you ladies out there can relate to this… at least the tired part. I do have a little secret for at least, looking like you’ve slept, even if you haven’t. It’s super easy and takes less than 5 minutes and the best part is you don’t need a single tool!

Use a Beauty Balm to even out skin tone and give it some added benefits. There are a lot more benefits to a BB cream than a tinted moisturizer. Most have anti-aging, SPF, moisturizer, etc.  There are a lot of great ones on the market so find one that works best for you. Or send me a quick message and I can guide you.

wakeupb3This second step is crucial… use a concealer or corrector in the inner corner of your eyes and anywhere you have darkness. If you only have a little darkness you can get away with using a flesh toned concealer that is a shade or two lighter than your skin tone. A good option for really dark or tired looking eyes is to use a peachy corrector or something in the orange/red family. It sounds scary and weird but I promise it will work and you will love me for it. 🙂 You can use a concealer brush if you’d like but when I’m going for a natural look I just use my ring finger.

ALWAYS use your ring finger when applying products to your eyes. It is your weakest finger so you will do less damage and cause fewer wrinkles.
wakeupb4We are almost there ladies (and gentlemen if you’re reading, also) the last step. Woot! Woot! Put some mascara on! Mascara is one of my favorite cosmetics. I rarely leave home without it on my lashes. It can really make your eyes pop and has such a big impact for such a simple product. Just one coat will work for this natural look. For a little added drama you could opt for a fiber mascara which is the next best thing to lash extensions.
That’s it, you’re done! 3 easy steps to looking like you’re not exhausted. I hope this helps but don’t forget to get some quality sleep in there too! And drink lots of water. They are the best cosmetics you can get and they are both free.
